Bleeding Gums

Bleeding gums

Bleeding from gums is a sign of gum disease. Healthy gums are normally pink in color, firm around teeth and don’t bleed during eating or brushing. In general, our gums start to bleed when our dental hygiene is inefficient; this will allow bacteria in the mouth to accumulate around the teeth. The continuous presence of bacterial accumulation around teeth and gums will trigger inflammatory response from our body that is manifested by bleeding gums.

It is important to maintain healthy gums to support our teeth and our general health. Diseased gums are associated with heart disease, diabetes, COPD, low-birth-weight and pre-term babies, and elevated cholesterol.
